We got lucky with the weather yesterday and had a lovely day out in the sunshine! Thunderstorms happen very fast up in the mountain side so there is always a chance those clouds can turn nasty. After the long drive we arrived at the Olympia ski park. As you can see, blue skies, sunshine and loads of people! The parking lots were full!
The stadium seating with a beautiful view of luscious trees.
Here I am standing in front of the ski jump. It’s quite scary really. I can’t imagine throwing myself down one of those things on purpose! I don’t think I’m brave enough to do something like that.
(I decided the best way to show the pictures would be with collages. Just click on the picture and you can get a larger version.)
The entire way was so picturesque! Flowing turquoise water on bedrocks and carriages being pulled by beautiful horses. Shit of said horses paving the entire route after they passed us!..lol The mountains in the backdrop with misty clouds at the tips. A giant beer for refreshment..yeah! I’d say it was a hell of a day!
The previous time we visited this trail was about 4 years ago and I was definitely heavier and not fit at all! I remembered how I struggled walking this route before so I wanted to see exactly how much had changed in my fitness. We were passing people like we were on speed! I hardly felt the walk at all. The hills were barely noticeable and I was very pleasantly surprised.
After having lunch (see the previous post for the delicious food pics!) we saw the Bergbahn and jumped at the chance to take it up the mountain. I had never done that before and I was really curious to experience that. I was immediately paralyzed when I went in there! It was a little 100 year old tin can rusted from the years and it seemed to be hanging off a floss string! lol I managed to snap some pictures but I swear my stance didn’t change the entire ride up. Front my waist down to my feet I was stone!
The views were magnificent though. It was definitely a great experience! We bought tickets for a round trip but I didn’t think I could hop back on that little thing. So we simply hiked back down the mountain and planned to take the road back through the caves.
The entire way down was beautiful! It was muddy and the steps looked precarious! I have short legs, so going down uneven high steps meant I had to continuously hang on to the railings. That bridge there was a bit broken too. I was starting to miss the little flying tin can just about then!
When we reached the bottom of the mountain we came upon this beautiful beach. This is where the entrance to the caves is and where we continued on our way.
As you can see, the caves are gorgeous! It is extremely dark, slippery and wet however. You can hold on to a metal rail on the sides so you can guide yourself through the darkest areas but it really feels like you are blind in there. You look for the holes in the caves to find some light to guide you to the next area. Because there are so many people going through you always have to stand on the side, wedge yourself against the rocks and allow people to pass. By the time we got out we had wet butts and backs…lol Most of the pictures I took were quick snapshots. Stopping to enjoy the view can be annoying to many people behind you. You stand in the crevices and hope you don’t get too wet as you take pictures and get out of the way.
Here I am pretending I am in an enchanted forest and I just happen to be a modern fitness fairy!..lol We walked back to the car park and then had another traffic filled, fun drive back home!
It was truly a wonderful day and we were glad to have made it there even if it was only for a few hours. We hardly felt the hike at all because we were so busy looking at everything and enjoying the day. That’s how I like my days of fitness! Though, now I feel my thighs this morning. Apparently I did get a workout after all!
We are now off to the park to begin my bike lessons. I am soooooo scared about this. But my husband won’t quit and he seems to be more excited than me that I should start to learn how to ride it. He is already planning bike trips! I think he is jumping the gun but we shall see. Wish me luck and no injuries please! Enjoy your Monday!
