I finally got into kettlebell training. I had heard very little about it before so it never really caught my interest. Until now that is. I was unsure how to work with these iron balls so I had to read up a bit on them in order to figure out where to start. Based on the dumbbells I have at home I figured I could start with an 8kg bell. When it arrived though, I realized that it could be a bit challenging for the exercise video I had ordered.
Sure enough, some of the exercises with the bell in this beginners video would be a bit much for me to use the 8kg. So I ordered a smaller one for those. I now have a nice balance to switch it up. The video is pretty nice so far. It’s divided into a tutorial and two workouts. I LOVE THAT! I loved that I could go learn the moves first and then do the workouts without having so much down time in between. There is nothing that rubs me the wrong way more than for a fitness instructor to take minutes before each move to explain it every single time. Drives me bonkers! So far I have only tried the beginners workout and I loved it! She is fast, concise and a fun lady to listen to. Definitely someone you can watch over and over again without wanting to throw the bell through the TV screen..lol yeah, I know..I can be that dramatic!
I also bought this book, The Swing by Tracy Reifkind. This lady kicks ass! She is so inspirational and her story really speaks to me. She is so determined, strong and definitely someone to look up to. I’m regretting getting it on my kindle though and not as hard cover. It’s hard to shuffle on the kindle trying to see the exercises. I have definitely taken her tips on form and for swinging the bell and incorporated them into my beginners workout. She has a blog too, so you can visit it here if you would like to read her story and see her awesome results! You can also listen to a podcast interview here.
Now for the high tech part..haha! This idea came from The Swing! Tracy recommended cutting an old pair of socks at the ankle and using the fabric band to protect your hand. This has definitely improved my workout. The first time it hurt like hell without the fabric. I don’t want calloused palms either so this was the perfect solution.
This workout leaves you sore! oh so sore! I had a struggle just to sit a few hours after. It’s definitely a lot of swinging booty action!
Buns of steel..here I come!
